Giant Iceberg Headed For Australia

50 billion tones of ice heading for Australia…

At least that was the hype in late 09 by the media, since then there hasn’t been much word of it.

This is a natural event where Ice breaks off from Antarctica every 50-100 years and is not global warming so let’s no scare mongering here.

The Iceberg known as “B17B” broke off an ice shelf 10 years ago, measuring 140 square kilometers.

Latest known position of largest section of B17B:

Latitude: 49 35.2 S

Longitude: 113 57.5 E

Area: About 43 sq km

Length: 14 km

Width: 3.2 km

I realize I’ve given mixed information about the area and size. 115 square k or 43 square?  All sources are below so investigate yourself and post you’re thoughts.  I have nothing conclusive to say about which is right thoe the latter seems more probable.

From B17B a lot of other ‘little’ (few kilometers) Icebergs have broken away, check the images below for an idea.
